What was it like using a donated embryo?

We are looking at the prospect of using a donated embryo and would appreciate any information on what the process was like. Were there many to choose from or long waiting lists? Were the donors open to contact? What kind of background information was available? How long was the wait and how easy was the process? Thanks so much for any insights!

We used a donor embryo - the egg came from shady grove and the sperm from California gyro bank. We got plenty of background information from both. We were mainly interested in medical. Any of these clinics have done all the proper vetting. We never think about it with our child. Nature vs. Nature is a definite thing.

You may also be emotionally exhausted after many failed rounds of IVF and want as much certainty as possible. Using genetically normal donated embryos skips the entire egg retrieval, fertilization, development, and genetic testing cycle that often leads to failure and heartache. Particularly if you've already given up the possibility of a genetic connection, why not save yourself the potential heartache and use embryos with much higher odds of success?
