In need of tips! My 3.5 month old has started rolling over on her tummy while sleeping and getting “stuck” there. Sometimes she cries and other times she’s silent.
We keep putting her back on her back (which makes her more upset and fussy, leading her to roll again) for safe sleeping. But the rolling happens so frequently, we’re having to stay up day and night to catch it as she sleeps or naps. I’m guessing this is a common developmental thing? What have folks done? We’re trying extra tummy time during wake hours to see if we can train her to flip back by herself but it feels like it will be a long time before she learns how. Thanks! - more than usual sleep deprived mom |
Per my ped, once they role themselves to their tummy and want to stay there, it's fine to let them sleep that way. Still lay her down on her back, but don't turn her over again if she rolls. |
This is the correct answer! Totally fine for them to sleep on belly once they can roll. Make sure they're NOT swaddled. A sleep sack is fine but arms should be free. |
Agreed. We went through this, too. It's fine. But if you are concerned, check with the pediatrician. |
+1. That’s what my Ped said too. |
Same! It may be a month or more before she learns to roll the other way, and it’s fine. Babies sleep deeper on their bellies anyway, so enjoy the better sleep! |
I know this can be nerve wracking, but she now has the neck strength to turn her head and breathe unobstructed. You will only exhaust yourself trying to prevent it. |
just ..... NO SWADDLE!
She must have both arms out and free, so a sleep sack is ok, but no swaddle. |

Bid farewell to the swaddle and just accept that it will be bumpy. Once they’re rolling really well both ways they’ll sleep great for two weeks and then start to rock on hands and knees instead of sleeping, then pull up, etc etc etc. |
Just let her be |
