Well, that’s explains why the organization was MIA when it was time to negotiate for teachers. Over $400k in her pocket!

This happens all the time with nonprofits. It’s so disgusting.

Uh, it does?

Not any with any financial controls in place.

I think so. I don’t know what other sources of income AEA would have. Of course, they didn’t file any paperwork so hard to confirm.

Query how this woman was elected. A very strange resume. Attended a Bible school for her undergrad and lists cosmetology school as an educational credential. Strikes me Arlington teachers for the most part would be pretty demanding (the superintendent of APS in the 80’s and 90’s was the superintendent of my north shore Chicago school district and he told me teachers were demanding but high quality).

Ha. You think financial controls by themselves will stop embezzlement or other breaches of fiduciary duty? No, all companies are at risk. Of course if they don’t have tight financial controls they are more susceptible, but somebody will almost always figure out a way around things. This is true in all sectors but nonprofits do make up a disproportionate percentage of fraud cases.

And maybe “common” is an overstatement , but it’s definitely not uncommon.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that most APS teachers actually aren't dues-paying members of the AEA. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Ugh. Sadly file this in this shocking/not shocking folder.

No other word for this lady than, "grotesque".

That’s precisely why I’m wondering how they even had 400 K to begin with!

Remember all the AEM people defending her after her typo filled letter? Remember how dissenters were called racist for critiquing a black woman? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Before collective bargaining was allowed the AEA didn't have any power at all. They just endorsed candidates and occasionally spoke at board meetings. If they collective bargaining thing hadn't passed she could have probably kept going a while longer.

You don't see any difference between typos and embezzlement? Ok....
