We absolutely have let interns go when they are not meeting the expectations of the program (after coaching/multiple explanations.)
I wish I could do that but I am not going to jeopardize my career for firing interns. Their parents are friends with my employer's CEO and CFO. If anything, they dont' have to do anything and I write them glowing recommendations
