Kids With Special Needs and Disabilities
| currently have a great iep in ffx which I had to fight very hard for. We are contemplating a move to Loudoun County. Does the iep just switch over automatically? Anyone have any experience with this? TIA |
| If I recall correctly I think they have to accept your IEP for a month or something until they can do their own eval and form their own IEP. There is a website called something like Wright's law that should have something about this. When I have more time I will try to research this for you. |
| Op here...thanks PP! I fought so hard to get this iep I would hate to have to start over from scratch. |
| Once you enroll in Loudoun, the school has 30 days to determine if they will accept the eligibility or if they need to do their own testing. If Ffx testing was done recently (within 3 years), most likely no further testing, unless there are major red flags. If it has been longer than that, LCPS will probably want their own testing. However, If you really had to fight for the IEP, you may have to fight again. What is your child's disability? |
| Op again...my ds qualifed under OHI because he has Childhood Absence Epilepsy. He is medicated but we still haven't found the perfect dose so he still does have a few seizures which interfere with his abiltiy to process everything that goes on in a classroom. He also has speech and language issues and some mild sensory avoiance/co-ordination issues. As it stands now, he has 30/min a day of resource for K next year and PT/OT on a consulting basis. We do private ST and OT as well. |
| oops...Also meant to say thank you for the info! |
If you son will be in K next year - when does he turn 5? I ask b/c will he age out and require a new IEP anyway? |
|
He turned 5 on May 31. We are still toying with having him do a year of transitional K which would mean the IEP would turn into an ISP until he starts K. We just did his IEP in May so we are good for another year. I am wondering if we should just wait to move until next spring/summer so that we have the new IEP in place.
I apologize if this makes no sense. Ask ???'s and I can clarify. This is all so new to me. |
