| And what do you think is the optimum size? |
| 0 and 0? |
| We have 14 currently. Not everyone comes every month. Someone is sick, someone forgot, someone has guests, etc. Anything between 10-20 is a good number. More than 20 is too many. |
+1 |
| 6. Too small. |
| Ours is six and I agree that it's too small. I think 10 is about right. I prefer a smaller group but one with enough momentum to meet even if 1-2 people can't make it. |
| My most successful book clubs have been 2-4 but that's always because it's a group of 2-4 of us excited about reading the same book together, not an ongoing thing. I think if you wanted make it semi-permenant, 10-20 would be ideal because that would be mean 2-4 people would be genuinely excited about the current book and free to attend the current meeting. |
| We have 12, but in a typical month, only about 6 come. 6 is OK for discussion, but 8 is probably better. |
| 7, which I think is a good size. When it’s been smaller it was too small. More than 10 might be too big if everyone shows up since it might be hard for everyone to be heard. |
| Thanks. We are down to 7 and I worry that is too small. |
| Do you know the people outside of book club or is book club separate from the rest of your life? |
|
I go to a book discussion group once a month, about 6 or 8 people show up but anybody can come, we take turns telling about what books we are reading or have recently read that we liked.
I also participate in a small group of 4 via video chat where we discuss a book we have all read and then always chat about other things as well. |

We have four people and it's perfect. We don't want to add. Easy to coordinate. We can really talk about the books.
It started as a deliberately small book club when our much bigger book club imploded with the start of COVID. |

Nine. At least 7 always make it, but rarely all 9. Seems pretty decent, maybe on the smaller side in my opinion.
I'm a newish member and I think the old guard are very protective over the number though because despite the book club being centered around our neighborhood, there are some voracious readers who live on our street who have not been invited to join. I was only invited when a member moved away. |
| 5 - perfect amount. |
