Need help choosing a neutral interior paint color for a colonial home

Anonymous
My house needs a refresh and I’d like to update paint colors. Previous owners painted it greige which doesn’t look good with the reddish oak floors. Please recommend a starting place on choosing colors. I’d like a neutral for main living spaces. Some areas get western sun and some areas get no sun at all.

Traditional decor/styling - Room and Board/Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel
Small house with small rooms - hoping to make rooms feel bigger
Ideally something that can make my floors look less red or compliments the reddish hue.

Thank you, talented decorators of DCUM!

Go over to Houzz.com and specifically, the paint forum. Lots of advice and examples there. Greige paint can be effected by floor color and available light. Some grieves can have purple or pinkish undertones. Once you find a few colors that you like, sample the paint before you commit.

Bm revere pewter seems to work with our red oak floors.

Very happy with SW Alabaster in our historic row house. I have some accent colors here and there (on bookcases, around fireplaces, in bathrooms, etc.). I chose a paint palette through Etsy for the accent colors and it all coordinates well.

BM Cloud White works with everything and looks great in sun and shade.

We use Linen White. I've used it in 3 houses and don't get tired of it.

Should add that in the greige category I like Edgecomb Gray. We have that in a bedroom now and may be doing the basement as well (but the basement doesn't have the red oak floors).

+1 for Cloud White. I love it! It's a creamy off-white that's not too yellow.

Generally BM has good colors - they also have a historic color palate if you're interested. Some of BM's colors have a cult following - I would try a few of those.

She introduced me to BM Ballet White and life hasn’t ever been the same.
