| What are your writing goals this year? |
|
Oh gosh, it's hard to even think about goals. I've had a novel out on submission for a year now - I guess my goal is either to sell it, or let it go.
My other goal is to start working on my next book. I've been in such a stinky terrible limbo with this one that it's been hard to get my mind around buckling down and writing again. I hope that's not too much of a bummer. |
|
This is OP. Not a bummer. Is it on submission to agents, or do you mean your agent has been trying to sell it? Do you already know the premise of your next book?
I'll be querying agents soon, and want to write my next book. I think the waiting will make me want to start to distract myself. Any others want to chime in.... |

I write a dumb fanfiction for my favorite book series. It's smutty and not canon compliant at this point and probably not even written very well, but it's something I can point to as an accomplishment I've made. (Not that I would ever allow somebody to read it. Good god would I be embarrassed to have somebody I know read some of the sex scenes...)
My goal this year is to write something I'm comfortable letting people I know actually read. |
Link, please! I'd read it! |
Yes! I want to read it too! I live smutty. |
Awesome. What genre and/or do you have an idea yet? |
My agent has been trying to sell it. She says she still believes it will find a home. I wish I had her optimism! I do have a next book I'd like to write. And I think this one, unlike my others, actually has some commercial potential if I can get myself to actually write the thing. Good luck with your agent search! Do you have a target list, or where are you with it? What's your genre? How are you feeling? |
Me tooooo |

goals:
- finish revising current book, which is under contract - write a new book and get under contract with it (ideally would be same publisher) - start playing around with a new genre (fantasy?) or age category - learn to be more patient with myself and my process. I tend to move slowly when I'm thinking about an idea, but once things come together in my head I draft very quickly. The problem is that I can get very discouraged when I'm in the "thinking" stage. Trying to learn how to stay calm when I'm not racking up a giant word count each day. |
Similar goals. -- hit my deadline for this book, which is under contract. -- start writing next book, also under contract, which will probably be due at the end of the year or beginning of 2024 -- carve out some time to evaluate my writing career and goals and see where I want to be after these two books. I have a few projects in mind that my publisher would not be interested in, so there's risk involved. Hoping to come up with a plan for 2024. To all those on submission -- hang in there! It is so tough. There's a very supportive FB group called "On Submission" if you need moral support and community. |
Congratulations to you and the PP before you on having contracts - and good luck with your deadlines. Thank you for the FB group rec. Will def try to join. It's a very weird place to be in, being on submission - and it'll be nice to have other people to talk to about it. |
Hey fanfic writing friend! I almost never write smut but do pretty much exclusively write fanfic these days. My goals are to clean up a series of AU fics I wrote last year and actually post them, and write something for my current fandom du jour. Modest goals, but I have two toddlers so I may still not manage them. 😂 |
| I had a book out this month and I've one out in June. My aim though, is to write new material. I had an almost totally dry year last year for various reasons, and while I really focused on getting things published (2 last year, 2 this year as mentioned), I need to write new stuff. |
|
I admire those who have finished or heck even started their books. Y'all are amazing and should be so proud of yourself. My ideas never make it out of my head.
