Culture at The Potomoc Should

I have heard that the elementary schools grow up fast. Any insights from current parents?

Not sure what you mean by "grow up really fast." I am a parent of a current student at the LS. I have not noticed that my child is growing up fast, nor have I noticed it in any of their classmates. Are kids growing up faster now than they did twenty years ago? Absolutely. Does Potomac encourage personal responsibility? Absolutely. Does my LS child act like a preschooler some days and a fourth grader on others? Absolutely. And it is exactly what I have observed among my nieces, nephews, cousins and friends' kids - who attend both privates and public.

We couldn't be happier with Potomac's LS and would recommend it highly!!

Are most of the kids from the Mclean area? In terms of geographic diversity, do kids come from Maryland/Other parts of VA as well?

A large number come from Arlington & McLean. We do not live in either. They have buses that transport kids from Alexandria, DC, Maryland, Falls Church, etc.

I believe it has students from more zip codes than any other dmv private but I can’t remember the exact statistic. The school was founded in NW and didn’t move to VA until 1951. It has students from all over dc, md & Va. All students (except K & seniors) use the bus system, and there are routes all over. Many students are from McLean & Arlington, but you will find kids from everywhere from Bowie to Bethesda to Woodbridge to sw to Manassas. I’m always shocked at the geographic range of students.

In LS most of the kids are in McLean and closer parts of Arlington. We were in a further part of Arlington and our child got admitted for K and we asked for the statistics on the LS kids, which they provided to us. This does not mean all of the kids before people jump all over this. It means most of them.

I can't comment on the school, but we declined based on this. We ended up prioritizing having our child in a more community-based school.

It becomes a lot more geographically diverse at later entry points: 4th, 7th, 9th. Lower schools everywhere tend to get more families and more interested families within a stone's throw.
