If summer PE class for rising 9th, Can you add another elective?

My kid may take PE over the summer before 9th grade begins. Will this open up a class period for another elective during the school year or just become a free study period in the library? I think IB MYP and then IB will be the goals.

Yes. Mine took summer PE both years specifically so she could add an elective.
