If the student has a C in English AA in 8th grade, can they still take English 9 Honors in HS?
Yes. You can take anything you want for English/History/Science. For math, I guess you can technically take what you want, but you will be strongly encouraged to follow a certain path based on past class and grade.
You're allowed to set yourself up to fail in high school.
It’s all open enrollment.

There are no restrictions on anything in high school. I have had kids with Cs in 8th grade algebra who failed the sol sign up for honors geometry.
It never goes well though. |
There is no way I would have a C student in 8th sign-up for Honors English in 9th. Good luck!
Their teacher will recommend that they not take Honors in 9th. English 9 Honors was a ton of work and very challenging at our HS. Unless your child had a specific reason for getting a C(isolated reason) but they typically will do much better, Then they can take their chances. In the end a student can pick whatever they want, but no teacher will recommend taking Honors if you end up with a C the year before.
