Please tell me this means MCPS is getting rid of Benchmark for next year

I saw there is an RFP for a new ES ELA curriculum:
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/office/ela-rfp.aspx

Looks like the BOE will vote in March.

Accurate.

Does anyone have a link to the RFP? Will the new curriculum be in place for this coming fall?

Is Benchmark really that bad? I thought I read on here that people like it?

Benchmark is only a couple years old, isn't it? How can they get rid of it so soon?

Yes, it is really that bad. Students, teachers, and parents alike all dislike it. It was not recommended by independent evaluators. It needs to go.

There is a reddit thread called "Benchmark curriculum or how to suck the joy out of reading" and that title really summarizes my 5th grader's experience with the curriculum the past three years.

It's awful. I don't understand how MCPS is so inept at choosing a ELA curriculum. Please, please tell me there is reason to think they will choose better this time.

Good point. They probably won’t choose any thing better.

Someone should be held accountable for the costly mistake with Benchmark.

The working group of educators who reviewed the various options did not support Benchmark. So who made the decision to go against the recommendation?

Big, expensive mistake that negatively impacted students.

Where’s the accountability?

Dude, keep up with the game. This is MCPS - the place hasn’t been accountable, especially on curriculum, for going on 15 years! Google Pearson, MCPS, Curriculum 2.0

The mcps website states they'll be looking for an evidence-based curriculum. Y'all I am in a field that likes touting evidence-based, and let me tell you, I know how that sausage is made. Think, processed sugar cookies "made with organic ingredients, non-gmo" type of thing. It's a total racket.

to continue...pay teachers way more, let people compete for these higher paying jobs, and promote relational and responsive learning with agency for teachers and conditions where they can be their best selves (not huge classes, no benchmark, no evidence based bs).

+1. The cast of characters who implemented 2.0 retired from MCPS and then were recruited by Discovery.
