My 1st grader just scored in the 65th percentile on the NNAT test.
I’m curious if this is considered a “good” score that could mean he is eligible for a gifted program at APS. The chart showed that he was on the high side of the average bucket. Thoughts on what this score means are appreciated. |
My understanding is that the % to be automatically referred for gifted services is higher. 90/95+ percentile.
That said, it’s just one test. If you think your kid needs gifted services you can parent refer. |
No, in the DMV, it is not considered a good score. Better than average, but many times the 99% nationwide is only 94% in Northern VA. |
CoGat considered 85% and up gifted. But as PP has said that local school districts use a higher percentage. |
My 2nd grader was 94th percentile for her age but 79th percentile for the local percentile, which I thought was wild. I think that gifted or not, your kid is going to be surrounded by some pretty bright kids. |
APS doesn't base their gifted identification solely on test scores but will automatically start the process for scores over 120 which is usually 90-95th percentile. |
