Can someone give me a super easy composting setup? I would like to start this, but all the articles I read say "it's so simple" and then make it seem really complicated.
What I envision working for me is a countertop bin that seals and is easy to clean for scraps and then a backyard composter where you just throw it in the top and that's it. Take out the "finished" compost from the bottom when it's ready. I don't want to turn it or have it take up a ton of space. I'd love to have specific product names or links. And then I need to know if there's any kind of food scrap I can't put in it. Thank you!!! |
Mine is pretty simple, but I’m not sure it’s that effective. ![]() The main problem is that a basically have to stop using it for a couple months while everything finishes composting before I use it in my garden. I tried to fix this problem by having TWO tumblers, but picture a typical rowhouse yard with two composters and you’ll see why that was ridiculous! |
My tumbler bin has 2 sides. One is cooking . I add to the other. I keep a Rubbermaid in the fridge and take it out when full. |
I have the OXO countertop compost bucket and an Earth Machine in my backyard. Fill bukcet, dump bucket in EM, wait, remove finished compost from the bottom of the EM on occasion. It's easy. You can get a lot more nuanced with compost, but this is the lazy woman's way and it works for me. |
I just went with a service (Composting Crew). It’s $30/month and I just do what you describe in the OP. I can have compost delivered in certain seasons, so it’s really that easy. |
