What are you cooking?
So far I resisted ordering out by making: arroz con gandules, pasta with pesto (had half a jar of pesto lingering in the fridge), baking some freezer burritos I made a few months ago. I made my kid some jiffy corn muffins instead of grabbing a bagel a coffee shop. Today we are hosting friends for lunch and I'm making empanadas with fruit on the side using stuff already on hand. Tonight I'm repurposing cooked, frozen leftover beef tenderloin into beef stroganoff. I've spent about $45 on groceries so far this year. |

Yes. We do this every year. I have amazing beef stock from out Christmas rib roast, so French onion soup is happening today. We made deconstructed spring rolls with some random veggies.
Root vegetable hash Farro, sausage and greens bowl Everyday cassoulet Jumble cookies with dried fruits and nuts The $$ aspect of it is nice, but so is just using up odds and ends. |

Yes, I do this every January too. Yesterday I made beef stew in the slow cooker accompanied by mashed cauliflower. 2 bags of cauliflower rice have been in my freezer forever. It actually was really good.
I have a bag of frozen cod and a bag of frozen scallops I want to use this week. I am open to any recipes if anyone wants to share. |
I’d make a cod and corn chowder, and either throw in the scallops a few minutes before it is done or use the scallops in a diff dinner. |
| I'm trying to! We had a ton of guests over the holidays and have so much food leftover so I'm trying to use up as much as possible before it goes bad. I also am trying to use up stuff from the freezer that I've forgotten about. It's really made me creative about recipes. |
| We do this monthly. We only grocery shop every three weeks. First two weeks all the fresh veg etc is used up. Third week is a challenge and we are digging in the recesses eating frozen spinach, etc. Honesty it's fun having that eat the cupboards bare challenge. Then we feast after we shop and start it all again. |
| I'm trying to eat down the freezer. Tonight I warmed up some chicken tikka and roasted some blanched cauliflower (along with rice, yogurt, and cherry tomatoes), so that's two bags down! I tend to try to keep it full so we have easy meals for busy times, but it's gotten very full of components that still require work to make a full meal, so we might as well eat them. |

Trying to clear the out freezer at our house. Thus far have not ordered take out, although tempted a couple of times.
Also challenging myself to add more vegetables. We’re usually pretty good on that front. I was inspired by recent WaPo Food section article to add more through out the day |

I’m not officially doing this but I am trying to get through some pantry and freezer stuff. So far I’ve done:
— peach cobbler with canned peaches which was amazing — burrito bowls with frozen leftover rice from Mexican takeout and frozen fruit virgin daiquris If anyone has recipes to use up applesauce or Jams please let me know. I bought a ton of applesauce before my kids decided they don’t eat it anymore, and I somehow ended up with an insane amount of specialty jams in weird flavors. We did a cheese and jam board for new year’s but that only goes so far. |
| Not like a special official month thing, but a couple times a year I try to intentionally clear out the pantry and the freezer by taking stock of what's there and planning meals that use that up. |
| Ohhh, I’ve never done this before, but I’m looking for ways to save money, I’m inspired to try. |
|
I've made:
- a tofu pot pie with pantry goods and a bag of frozen carrots and peas I had no use for -baked some honey wheat bread -did beef and rice bowls to use up leftover beef and salsa |

Can you pls post the canned peach cobbler recipe.
Thank you |
