Anyone have family any Goodwin house? Care to share costs?

Looked at an assisted living earlier this week and was shocked by costs. I can’t tell exactly, but it looks like with meds and even a little bit of care, it’s going to be over $20,000 a month! Is this what most places are? The place was very nice, but wow. Anyone have expensive with Goodwin house? Same price range? Maybe I need to look at other options.

Isn't that a CCRC? If so, it is a really amazing option.

Goodwin house? Do you mean it’s independent living then assisted then memory? Is it also close to $20,000 a month?

That is definitely on the high end. Is that for AL plus other benefits? Would she have her own personal aide? I will say I have heard good things about them. Also, I would rather have no inheritance and put my mother some place good then continue this aging in place is nightmare she insisted upon.

Agree. The “aging in place” is a nightmare. My mom thought adding a grab bar to the bathroom would be enough. Meanwhile her house is so hoarded that every ate is a trip hazard.
We have aids now, but only 8 hours a day and that is $1000 a week, but would be $4200 a week if it was full time.

That’s for the room, the care, food and med management.

My mom is at Goodwin House (independent living) and LOVES it. Loves the food, loves the people she’s met (and she’s met a lot), loves the activities, loves the way she could customize her apartment, etc. Granted, she voluntarily downsized and picked this place completely on her own, so that aspect didn’t create additional hurdles.

I have no idea of the cost, but whatever she’s paying, it’s worth it. If there’s nothing left and her final check to the undertaker bounces, I will have no complaints.

Years ago it was $5-6K a month I have no idea what it is now.

OP, can you enlighten us a bit, how it is 20K a month

My mom is considering moving to Goodwin House. They have a number of different financial options. Most involve putting a significant amount form, like 400k, and then a monthly fee. Depending on the plan you choose you may get part or most of the original amount down.

I think most CCRCs work that way, as opposed to places that just use a monthly fee approach.

If I remember correctly, one of their financial plans was you would pay the same price even if you moved up levels of care. That might be the program she is talking about. But $20,000 seems really high. Memory Care at Greenspring is less than $12,000
