My high schooler is taking french and I plan to take her to france for a few days. This seems like a great educational opportunity - in my mind as a parent, this is worth missing 2 days of school. Is that going to be unexcused? Is there a way to get it cleared as excused?
Thanks. |
| I know someone who got something similar excised by the principal. |
| no who cares?! just take the 2 days. say they were sick. no one will lift an eyebrow |
| What? I thought as long as the guardian called in and told the school that the kid would be out, it was an excused absence?! |
| Nope, won't be excused if you tell the truth. But who cares? It makes no difference whether it's an excused or unexcused absence |
No. Its excused for valid reasons only (illness etc). Vacations and sports competitions are not excused. |
+1 It really doesn’t matter anymore. Just send an email and save it in the rare case someone would look into why your child has several absences. |
That's awesome! I mean I was taking my kids to England now realize since they take English it's an educational trip! |
Why save the email unless you’ve somehow been able to get it excused? In what situation would it be helpful? |

Stop by a French university and call it a college visit... excused for juniors and seniors.
FYI that there is a potential implication for an unexcused absence, though it is rarely enforced. Teachers don't have to allow you to make up work if unexcused... If it were me, I simply wouldn't call in and if the kid reported (upon return) that a teacher was playing hard ball on making up assignments, I would call in a mental health absence retrospectively. |
