Next steps after 2 unsuccessful FETs

Anonymous
I just learned that my second FET with a euploid embryo was unsuccessful. The first one was with a medicated cycle and the second a modified natural cycle. Awaiting a call with the Dr. but checking to see if anyone has similar experiences with unsuccessful FETs and recommended next steps/questions to ask? Feeling confused and disappointed and not sure what to do next. SGF patient...

I’m so sorry. I was in your shoes. We had two failed transfers and ran out of embryos. I wound up having to do another full IVF cycle with egg retrieval. We got pregnant from the first transfer from that cycle. Wishing you luck with whatever you decide to do next.

Thank you for your response - did you do testing after the first two transfers and what kind of FET protocols did you use with all of the transfers?

No additional testing. I just went back into another retrieval cycle immediately. The only difference in protocol is I had success on the third transfer as a fresh cycle when the first two had been FETs. Stats trend toward frozen transfers being more successful, but fresh worked in my case.

I had 2 failed transfers at SG. They recommended ERA which indicated a need for an extra day of progesterone. The next transfer worked.
SG was doing a huge ERA study at the time and there was some talk about making it part of the standard procedure but we left right around then, so I don’t know what became of that.

Thank you this is helpful. I am going to do the Receptiva test, but my Dr. indicated that the ERA is only helpful for a medicated transfer not the modified natural protocol. I had planned to do a modified natural FET again but am now weighing whether medicated with an ERA may be better? Am curious if anyone has experience / knowledge about which protocol is better.

I did an ERA after one failed FET. It indicated one more day of progesterone. I did extra progesterone day in second FET but it also failed. If you do an ERA, you may want to do a confirmation cycle of the ERA before using an embryo, if you have a very limited number of embryos. In my case, both failed FETs were with a PGT normal embryo and I have had successful FET a few years prior.
