Less expensive alternative to Goodnites?

Anonymous
One of my twins (8 years old) is still in Goodnites at night. In the past he’d be fine with just one a night, but now with inflation, and the fact that he’s often wearing two or more per night these days, things are getting pricey for this single momma.

Does anyone happen to have any brilliant suggestions on alternatives perhaps? We’d try anything at this point.

PP here again- also try Sposies in the pull up. They have helped to keep DS drier. https://www.target.com/p/sposie-booster-pads-with-adhesive-for-overnight-diaper-leak-protection-28ct/-/A-78308102#lnk=sametab

I used to like Safeway's generic version

Do you put him on the toilet at midnight when you go to bed? Then he would only wet one pull-up.

It might not be an option he will agree with but what about trying a cloth diaper. You can add more absorbency if needed. He will also feel the wetness and it might help him wake up.

Cloth diaper, large size and wake him up 2 hours after he goes to sleep for a pee.

I'll admit I have ZERO clue about anything cloth diaper related...do you have a suggestion for a 45~ lb boy? I assume we'd need to buy 3-4 or so and cycle wash them throughout the week?

He actually does this himself, or his brother/roommate will wake up and wakes up DS. Although it's not every single night, and I think a lot of the time, he doesn't go on the toilet, presumably because he already went in his pull-up prior to waking up.

We keep a basket of goodnites in the bathroom for him though, with a strong suggestion that he at least TRY and go, when he goes in to change.

Interesting, I've never heard of these!! I'll order some ASAP!

DS isn't exactly leaking out of the pull-ups he's wearing now necessarily. He just hates being even a *little* bit wet so will change into a brand new pull-up if he wakes up and there's even a hint of wetness.

I don’t mean to suggest that he needs to be out of a nighttime diaper already, but if this is the case, could he be ready to sleep in just underpants? When one of my kids was transitioning out of nighttime diapers, we knew it was time because he also hated being even a drop wet. He would go to bed, urinate a few drops and walk up, pee, and change into new underpants. He never peed enough to soak through his underpants. We weren’t sure if he was waking from the sensation of peeing or the few drops. If your son is feeling wet in goodnites, which are designed to feel dry, I imagine that he would wake up even faster in underpants. Just asking because it would solve the expensive goodnite issue!

Oh I'd so, so like to be done buying them...

Unfortunately, what I didn't explain too well was--just because he dislikes feeling even a little bit wet, I shouldn't have worded it to suggest that he necessarily wakes up whenever he's a little bit wet.

Normally, he sleeps right through it and has no idea. He sleeps so, SO hard it's almost scary at times.

Right now, our routine is that his brother will usually himself get up in the night to go to the bathroom, and typically will wake his brother up to go at the same time (they share a bedroom). Usually though, this winds up being less of an attempt to go to the bathroom, and more just a quick opportunity to change into a dry goodnite. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason as to what time of the night he pees.

You need to wake him up and take him and not let it be the brother's responsibility.
