Not read that book but someone here recommended The Old Woman With The Knife and it is fantastic, 10/10 great read and character development.

It is About an old lady assassin considering retirement

Sun Also Rises/Hemingway. Character development is about as good as it gets. One of the chief reasons it's considered enduring, brilliant fiction.

Boy, I really enjoyed that book. I read in in '21 and at the time I also enjoyed Leave the World Behind, The Lincoln Highway, Great Circle, Our Country Friends. (I keep of list of what I read by date/month.)

PP here ^^ Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby is kind of similar but way grittier with less likable characters.

Cracking good book.

Not to hijack the thread, but the English TV series ENDEAVOR really draws its characters exceptionally well....The BBC, in general, produces high quality shows.
