Starbucks mobile order: Where are they?

Anonymous
Making some returns today and the drive thru was insane. Decided to make a return nearby and double back to pick up a mobile order. Inside on the counter were nearly three dozen drinks just waiting that hadn’t been picked up. I’d say 2/3 were Venti-sized iced drinks and the ice was long gone. What happens that all these people forget/decide to just not pick up all these $6 or more Venti iced drinks? Why even order? Where are all these people?

I believe you can order Starbucks through Uber Eats/Door Dash/etc. A customer probably ordered through a delivery app and didn’t tip or gave a crappy tip, so the people delivering right now aren’t going to choose those orders. They make more money getting the big orders with the corresponding big tips.

You should be outraged! Sbux is a horrible company. They will happily accept payment for these drinks and toss them in the garbage like the rest of the food that goes unused that day.

What else should they do with them? If the drinks were ordered, someone should pay for them. If they aren’t picked up, they’ll be thrown away eventually.

What is it their fault the person no-showed? They provided the product as purchased. They shouldn’t have to eat the loss.

I did this once when my kid puked in the car. I was going to call but…I was busy.

The cooked/prepared food is disposed of nightly. Employees aren’t allowed to eat it, it isn’t donated, it’s thrown away. You could lose your job for eating the food that is going to just be trashed.

Really? When I was a teen working in fast food we would take food home at the end of the day all the time. The manager would send it home with us. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why can't the employees have it, or, at least, they could donate it to a local food bank for the needy?

Liability I’m sure.

You also don’t want to incentivize the crews from over preparing in order to have lots of food to take home at night.

Because the employees might start calling in fake orders. so they can have food to take home.
Because it probably wouldn't meet health/safety regulations after sitting around waiting for the owner to show up, then however much time it takes to get it to the food bank's clients, plus you'd need someone to pick it up and deliver it to the food bank.

I also saw all these old drinks sitting there last time I was in Starbucks. It’s actually gross. All the ice is melted, fraps all liquified, and the top foam has dissipated. Awful optics. And frankly, who in the hell wants a melted or non hot drink????.

I was at Harris Teeter once when they are closing down the salad bar for the night. And employee had a shopping cart lined with a huge trash bag and just went about emptying all the food into it. We were shocked but those seem to be the rules.
