Is seriously so good. I loved the soundtrack from the Broadway show (never managed to see it) and the movie definitely did it justice. It’s not the 19990s movie but much closer to the book. Check it out with your kids…. |
I don't think it's that close to the book. No brother. The whole deal with the escapologist. It's a lovely movie, but it's close to the stage play than the book. |
It is SO good! We loved it and have watched it twice so far. |
I loved the 90s one. This one was so much more dark (the book, for me, is lighter) and the music is hard to fully hear, and the lyrics don’t seem to be that special. We switched half way through to the older one. I wonder about the PG rating! It felt much closer to PG-13 given how grim it was. |
I'm looking forward to it. "Naughty" is one of my favorite Broadway songs of all time. |
Thanks for posting. I was tempted to show it to my sensitive 10 year old who lived the book and liked the other movie except for the really scary parts, like the closet. If the musical is darker we should wait a couple years |
Saw it in London on the last night of an amazing vacation. It’s such a core memory that I’m afraid to watch any other version. |
My highly anxious 7 year old who buried her head in my arm during the death wolf parts of Puss in Boots loved it and was not scared whatsoever. She’s watched it twice already. Your 10 year old will be fine |
Saw it in Broadway with our kids years ago and we all loved it! |
There needs to be a “PG plus” or something rating for movies that don’t have sex or swearing but are dark and intense. |
Just finished it with my 13 and 11 yo kids and visiting grandma. Highly recommend. We’d all seen it on Broadway but all thought the movie was excellent! |
I love the music, I hate the adaptation of the lighthearted story that the original book was (imo). This was a depressing story of an abused child crying out for help.
The escapologist thing was weird. Is that in the stage show too? |
Loved it! But, it was very dark compared to the original. |
I can see how a stage production wouldn’t be as dark as a film. The Netflix cast was truly great but I wouldnt call this a “kids movie.” |
I would call it a kids movie. We all loved it! |
