| I thought this was a standard thing? We have had a series mishaps and decided to just order Chinese food. Our regular place is closed and the second choice fast food style place is also closed. Are Chinese restaurants in Northern Virginia closed on Christmas? Anyone have a recommendation for falls church/north Arlington or McLean that is open? |
| It’s not as big a thing here as other regions like NYC/NJ and LA. |
| It started bc the Chinese restaurant owners were generally not christian. I think demographically, more are Christian in this Tea now. Fwiw, in Moco, a lot of sushi places and Indian restaurants are open today also. Probably near you too... |
| Some are open, some not. Its a "Jewish" tradition (or was in the past) in some families to do movies and Chinese food. |
| Had Chinese in Rockville keeping the Jewish tradition |
| This Jewish family had Chinese in Moco. Long waits but tradition must be followed! |
| In my experience you have to order early. |
|
Yes, Chinese, Sushi and Indian food.
We ordered from all three because everyone wanted to eat different things. No cooking yesterday, no cooking today, no cooking tomorrow. Christmas is all about every one chilling, hanging out together, catching up on sleep. - Hindu family in MoCo. |
This sounds so nice and cozy. Enjoy the downtime with your family. |
| Be sure they cut that smiling ducks head off! |

In a lot of families, Chinese food is for Christmas Eve.
|
| We ordered Indian food and Chinese food. I wish there was a restaurant that served decent Indo-Chinese food like we get in India. |
| I've come to hate this tradition. Growing up, it was fun to go out to a Chinese restaurant with my family and be in a near empty restaurant and get great service and wonderful food, and go to an empty movie theater and see a double feature. These days, you wait an hour and a half for terrible take out, and there's no point even trying to see a movie. As usual, most offbeat traditions go mainstream and are ruined. |
Is Chinese food kosher? What do you order? |
New poster. There are Glatt Kosher chinese restaurants, but the majority of Jews in this country do not keep Kosher. |
