Another thread made me curious...
We all know the salary scale and steps and +30/60. What other supplements are available or provided? To teachers and to other positions? I'm newer to the system and have only worked in one school at one grade level so I'm familiar with a few but curious what else is out there. |

If someone is an administrator, they have a separate union and salary schedule. |
Not necessarily extracurriculars, and not admin...but the national board certification thing? Specialists - reading specialist, therapists, counselors? They're on the same scale but get additional? I'd love to see all those listed in one place. |
I'm a speech therapist and I get a small stipend for having a national license - I think it's around 1250 but I honestly can't remember. I also get a small amount to cover the cost of my Maryland license. Speech therapists at this point in time can't get National Board Certification though as a group we are trying to change that. If you don't have NBC you should consider going through the program to get it because it's a great way to raise your salary (and improve your teaching skills).

| Not applicable to OP but I was going to switch to moco but they only start teachers at a max of step 8 or 9. Depending on how experienced they are it can be a huge pay cut. Not ideal for attracting experienced teachers rather than newer ones, especially during a teacher shortage. |

Step 8 and this is my dilemma. I’m way underpaid for my experience. I hate how brainwashed all of my admin and coworkers are with MCPS jargon. They can’t see the forest for the trees because MCPS told them not to. |
Yes but Reading specialists and SDTs get "summer days" which can add up to extra weeks of pay depending on position. |

+1, and i’ll add that there are no increases after you reach step 25 ( except COLAs). |

State law/incentives recently amended - NBCT is $10k/year bonus.
Other than that, pretty much everything is in the contract. |
In my experience, this is when you see teachers either jump ship to administration for the pay bump or if possible, pack it in and leave. My sister left after 19 years in because she knew she would be working without a raise for years. |

I applied to MCPS a few years ago. I chose not to take the offer when I found out I’d be placed on step 8, losing 7 years of experience. I found a private school that offered me far more than MCPS. It was clear to me during the hiring process that they really weren’t interested in hiring experienced teachers. |
| Why should they be? Experienced teachers are more expensive and less likely to follow the party line. Even at the school level, how often do principals clear out (or drive out) seasoned teachers so they can hire “their” teachers and feel more in control? It’s such a loss. |
