FFX County Covid Memorial?

Anonymous
Meanwhile, Fairfax County Board of Supervisor Chair Jeff McKay is proposing to spend taxpayer money on building a COVID-19 memorial which “remains a high priority for the county” according to the Fairfax County Park Authority.

Whose bright idea was this? Don't they have any better priorities for tax money at a time when people are being squeezed by inflation and rising assessments and the schools budget is in bad shape?

LOL. This is something I would expect in MoCo, not FFX.

I’m telling you, without a religion people will invent one. We’ve thrown out traditional religions, and people are swapping in things like Covid memorials instead.

Why not? Millions died.

1.1 million people killed by covid in the US in less than three years, the third leading cause of death (after heart disease and cancer) in the United States for the third year in a row, ho hum I guess.

So now we need one in every town and county?

People did die in every town and county, so...

If you want to there to be a cancer memorial, then you should start advocating for one, if you haven't already.

Because it’s a pointless waste of money?

We should definitely have more Covid memorials than Holocaust memorials.

Absolutely. Far more people were affected, and far more died.

Actually that’s not true. 11 million people died in the Holocaust, compared to 6 million worldwide for Covid. In the US 1 million have died of Covid. Fairfax county had around 1650 deaths. Certainly sad, but I don’t see the point of a memorial.

Those 1.1M are way overcounted too. How about a flu memorial? Or a heart disease memorial?

I guess someone's brother-in-law needs construction contracts.
