98 year old family member needs assisted living - Spanish Speaker

Anonymous
Can anyone tell me if you have any Northern VA recommendations of a nice senior assisted living center which, ideally, would include Spanish speaking staff? I've done the google searches, looked at "aplacefor mom" etc. Curious if any of you had a good experience.

Great Grandma is going to be recovering from a broken hip and will need help transitioning, dressing, toileting, etc.

Thanks!

I think most have Spanish speaking staff, so probably will not be an issue. I would think she'd go to an ortho rehab place first? Then discharged to AL place from there. That would be typical. I would look into Avalon AL homes. They are private homes with a 1-2:8 staff:resident ratio, not like 1:20 like they are in big places like Sunrise, Bright View, etc. Falls will be a huge risk for her, and she will need better oversite.

If she needs that much help, she needs more than assisted living. She needs skilled nursing facility.

When my dad was leaving rehab, I worked with an organization called Owl Be There to help me find the right place for him.

She will probably go to rehab for awhile. She should be assigned a case manager at the rehab place. The case manager should be able to help you find the right place for her.
