Any other moms out there ever think of running for office? I read of a PAC recently started in Oregon to support mom candidates. I have always wanted to run, and I see so many dads of young kids running, but never moms. What gives? |
Ever hear of Sarah Palin or Nikki Haley? Or Michele Bachmann, who has four kids of her own and 23 foster children? There are probably even some examples that I might consider sane. |
OP here- sorry I meant to say among Democrats, and at a local level. Say, city council, county council, state legislative level. |
OP,
What's stopping you? |
There are several of them. I've worked in state and local politics for years (not as a politician, but for them). There are periods of work with "very" long hours, but it's not all year. If you were at the state level, for example, you almost have to say goodbye to your kids for 3 months during Session(MD and VA), but after that, the rest of the year is pretty laid back. Most of the women I know at that level have grown kids, but not all (Jolene Ivey, Glenn Ivey's wife). City and County are a lot easier. Go for it if you are interested. |
Go for it, OP! I would love to have the confidence to run for office. Unfortunately, I'm a public speaking phobic. We definitely need more Democrat Moms making decisions for our communities and country. |
There's a mom at my daughter's school running for the Montgomery County Council right now. |
