Today in the mail, my young adult son received a religiously inspired, anti-gay booklet full of hate speech describing gay people in over-the-top, horrific terms. I'm outraged that bigots are spending large sums of money to mail this kind of hate speech into the homes of young gay people, and I'm also fearful that they somehow have my son's name and mailing address, particularly given the rising tide of anti-gay threats and violence.
I'm posting because I'm looking for ideas for the best place to donate. What are organizations that others think are the most effective at advocating for the rights and safety of gay people? |

| Gay mom here. I got something once from Focus on the family. Sounds nice but their focus is straight families, then don’t like families like mine. I wrote them a strongly worded note and sent it back in the prepaid envelope. Never heard from them again. |
I got one a few years ago that was advertising a magazine or something with a prepaid envelope. I sent them back a condom wrapper and a note that said love, a Jewish agnostic liberal bisexual. |
