How long should we expect the project to take and what is the sequence of steps assuming we have all the materials in hand?
|
| 3 weeks if an old house, 2 weeks if a newish one. |
| I would say one week if there are no major issues |
This is based on talking to a lot of handymen about a bathroom project. It was pretty consistent. |
|
Three weeks unless you’re like me and extremely picky. It took six weeks because things happened like fixtures I chose didn’t happen to work because of house structure issues so instead of settling for something available I waited a week for the part I really wanted to come. We also had them re-do some things which took more time.

3 days if you get all materials ready |
| I just had this done for a 4 by 6 foot bathroom. Was quoted 3 to 5 weeks. They took about 6, despite having everything on hand. Why? Because they had a different guy for every little thing! One guy does the demo. Another does the tile. Another does the paint. Another does the plumbing. Another does the woodwork. It went on and on. This was with a busy general contractor who had lots of jobs going on at once and had to shoehorn things into his schedule. Lesson learned - don’t use a GC for this, just hire a guy or woman who can do it all or at least most of it. |
| Our 8x8 remodel took 2 months. 2 weeks to do 90% of it and 6 more weeks for next 10%. We hired a guy who bought his team and did everything himself. |
We had the same experience with two separate (small) bathroom projects. Both promised just a few weeks, both ended up taking more like 5. |
This. If you want good work, then you are going to have different people do the demo, framing, rough plumbing, rough electrical, hvac, dry walling, tiling, cabinet install, countertop install, finish carpentry, finish plumbing, finish electrical, painting, shower door install. Each of these stages is a day or two (tiling can take longer) and there are two days of inspection. if you got all your ducks aligned, and had no down days, maybe 3 weeks. If any one stage gets delayed, all the other stages get delayed and that means weekend work, finding new people, or hoping they have an opening and 3 weeks becomes 8. |
| I know there are other threads but done right like PP said, what’s the cost range for this? |
In 2021 we did a 6x8 for 7K in labor. We did not move fixtures. That would have been an extra 7K. |
Yep, same here. We had two very small bathrooms gutted, and the whole project took about 7 weeks total. |
We just got quoted 20 k |
I was just quoted $12k for same. Contractor offered to include a cheap Glacier Bay toilet in the price. No thanks! |
