A couple of weeks ago partner and I took the train from new Carrollton to Philadelphia. I looked online ahead of time and found a webpage from the PG government that said the top two floors of the garage are for overnight parking. However, when we got there, the place is a total mess. The signs to overnight parking went nowhere and when we got to the garage, it explicitly said “no overnight parking” or you will be towed. We wanted to make the train so we illegally parked in one of the lots at the office park down the street, in the parking lot for the Giant office, the only parking lot that didn’t have a sign that saying you will be towed. Took the train, and worried about our car all weekend (note to self: get an AirTag for the car), came back and it was still there.
Went online and researched more about this and just got conflicting information. And then my cousin told me “oh, it just says that. You could’ve parked on the top two levels.” Is this true? Does anybody have any advice or recent knowledge of parking overnight at the new Carrollton Amtrak station? I’m going to Philly again in the spring and want to be prepared. By the way, the place is a mess with construction everywhere. But I’m pretty sure I only saw one parking garage. Thanks |
Yes you can park on the upper floors, I belive 3,4 and 5 overnight.
Where are you coming from that you are parking at New Carrolton? If any where around the MD beltway, I prefer BWI station. |
Rockville. You have a good point to go to Bwi. |
Upper Marlboro, Maryland |
BWI 100% |
Upper Marlboro,Maryland to New York City. |
We park in the garage; never have had any problems. |
Park at BWI rail station next time. |
Hi, re-upping this discussion since I have the same question and don't see a definitive answer. Can I leave my car overnight at the New Carrollton for a multiday trip via Amtrak? Thanks for any current information. |
Are you sure the garage has even re-opened? Last time I went to NCR the construction made it a nightmare. |
There are two garages. One is open and one is not. The second should open this spring. It’s not really clear whether you can park there overnight but I’ve never heard of anyone being towed. And I’ve parked there a number of times overnight for trips to NYC. BWI is an option but with the popularity of Amtrak, it’s easier to find seats together if you get on at NC. Here’s the big issue. Since RTO, that garage is packed with no available parking by like 9:30 am. So depending on when you’re going, it may or may not be an option for you. It is the lot that WMATA employees who are assigned to the NC building use and WMATA is almost fully back in the office. Any remaining telework ends in four and a half months. Additionally that lot serves commuters using MARC and Metro. |
There is also a bus from Shady Grove Metro to BWI rail. It only runs once and hour but works well. |
I've parked overnight at New Carrollton. Upper floors of the garage. My only experience is on weekends and then the garage is pretty empty. |
I'm the poster who re-upped the discussion. Thanks so much for your responses. I'm leaving Monday morning and will make sure to get there early! |
Just pay for parking. Geez. |
