My baby has no lips

Anonymous
I noticed immediately when DD was born that she has no lips. Like, none at all. Not thin lips but no pink outside her mouth. DH has thin lips and I have average lips for a white Germanic person. DS has similar lips to mine but DD at almost 5 months still has absolutely no lips.

I’m conocer she has some genetic disorder or somehow got FAS even though I stopped drinking months before she was even conceived. I’ve asked doctors and they just say it’s inherited features but even my thin lipped husband has lips. His top one is barely existent but you can clearly see the bottom.

Otherwise she seems somewhat typical, maybe a little bit behind physically than DH was at this age but still within the normal range.

But really, she is a such a cute little Who looking baby. I love her as she is, but I am concerned.

And to add. My baby doesn’t have any sort of cleft. She has a normal mouth but it is just surrounded by her same peach color skin, no visible lips or color.

I bet her lips will turn outward once she loses her suckling baby mouth. She probably looks completely adorable.

Babies change as they grow. Maybe they will become slightly fuller over time. What did DH's baby photos look like? Maybe that would be a clue?

Get checked out for ties. Lip ties could be pulling her lips under and in. Combined with naturally thinner lips could make them disappear

I don’t mean this to sound dismissive, although I realize it might, but I think it’s more likely that you’re suffering from PPA or PPD than that there’s something actually wrong with your baby. When I was in the throes of PPA I convinced myself something was wrong with my baby, and I’ve heard other moms discuss the same experience.

Have you had her checked for lip ties?

She will probably have DH's lips. Like his mother/sister/grandmother. Lips definitely do get bigger though

No, but I will. She nurses fine.

You didn't notice DH had no lips when you kissed him?

Your DD's lips will get bigger than they are now, and she can do lip injections when she gets older if necessary. Plus there's that temporary upper lip lift celebs are getting that makes top lip look bigger.
