Fevered but...no fever?

My 4 year old kept waking up last night crying. She felt very hot on her forehead and belly, even shivering a bit. But every time I took her temperature it was 98 or 99.1, but never over that. She has no other symptoms at all and she's been fine with no medicine since she woke up for good at 730. Do you think she's sick? Or getting sick? We kept her home today but of course she's bouncing off the walls and eating all my food.

FWIW, my other kids have had colds all week but only congestion/cough no fever. Related?

Every time my DD (3.5 yo) gets sick the bad part (elevated temp, miserable) lasts less than 12 hours.

I hope, and it's certainly possible, that yours had some yucky sinus/ear inflammation and is now on the mend.

This happens to me regularly. I feel suddenly feverish, clammy, chilled, and awful with disrupted sleep but no actual elevated temps and it only lasts overnight or so and never worsens into extended illness. I haven’t had a real fever in 20 or more years but get these episodes occasionally. Super odd and have never figured it out.
