Whitman Question

My kid says there are mirrors on the corners of hallways that were installed as a safety device in case a gunman is in the hallway or anywhere in the building. I’ve seen the mirrors myself, but is the reason behind them really for the purpose she described?

Sure, that could be the reason. But they could also be helpful in crowded hallways as students rush to class.

And letting staff keep an eye on kids.

There have been violent incidents there within the past year even so not like you can be too cautious.

What are you talking about? I haven’t heard about anything except the guy with the frying pan.

They are for safety to cover the "blind spots" that cameras in the hallways don't cover. Not just for possible gun incidents but so security and staff can see to make sure students are not doing inappropriate things in the corners. Lots of schools have them.

No and not this

They’ve had those for years—long before the frying pan incident or anything recent. They were even there when I was a student there. Pretty sure it was just to ensure staff can see what’s going on on the other side of the hallway. Whitman’s building doesn’t really have wing, the layout is like a Superman symbol and it’s essentially all one hallway with a few different angles.

Horrified to read the news about the hate incident at Whitman this weekend. I have younger kids in elementary school who will be attending Whitman. We’re Jewish. How is the culture and community at the school when it comes to underrepresented minorities?

I haven't heard any issues regarding latinos and african americans from my friend who have kids going there. BOth groups are underrepresented.

As for being Jewish, it's not underrepresented at Whitman compared to the county overall. I hope they catch the vandals who defaced the school yesterday.

I saw what you did there. Based on this response I guess the anti-Jewish sentiment is even worse than I thought.
