Are exercise-induced coughing fits with post-viral cough normal?

Anonymous
My 3 year old has had some signs of possibility developing asthma but the pediatrician it’s too early to tell. He just got over RSV but still has a cough and I’m noticing that after some running around/activity he will sometimes cough for a couple of minutes nonstop. Is that another sign of asthma or is that normal for post viral coughs?

Any wheezing with cough? It’s asthma for me. Ask ped at next appt.

Could be either, OP.
I’m asthmatic, and I cough for weeks after any viral illness…and exercise can definitely exacerbate that for me.

Just an FYI, aerobic-induced asthma is a thing. I have it, and I wish an adult noticed when I was little.

My kid had RSV not long ago and we were so sure she had developed exercise induced asthma- I have it so went to the doctor and everything. But it seems like it’s gotten a lot better recently, so not sure if it was just temporary after all? Hard to say

My son had this after rsv and is still getting better five weeks later. Have brought him to the doctor multiple times. Doctor says all sounds good, but kids are just getting back to back colds this fall, and don’t have time to recover from one before getting the next cough.

All in all was not concerned about the coughing fits since his checkup was okay. Take your kid to get checked out but also know it can be normal and it’s been a brutal virus season.

I would get your child checked for exercise induced asthma.
