| Interested in learning to knit. Live in Takoma, MD. Know of any nearby classes for beginners? Free or paid is fine but wanting in person. |
| There is a yarn store in Hyattsville called Sweetpea if that is not too far. They have classes. Although YouTube will get you a long way. |
| Fibre Space in Alexandria has great classes. Also check Looped Yarn Works in Dupont Circle. You could probably teach yourself online, but a class is helpful when getting started. |
| So Original is in Columbia MD if you are willing to drive there. |

Some libraries have knitting groups, and they are willing to teach and take beginners.
I learned on YouTube! |
I agree but OP said they want in person. OP I do think if you want to do an in person class, messing around first with some YouTube’s will really help you get more out of the in person class. Or maybe do an intro class and then a bunch of YouTube and then another class. You have to spend a few hours training your fingers and brain to be able to do anything fun. Just put on movies and make some squares. Mess up and unravel, then do it again. |
| I bought a beginner book during the pandemic and worked my way through. I used YouTube as needed. Very pink knits is good. I also take occasionalclasses at fibre space (Alexandria) but they’re not free |
Michaels also has online classes for free. I did a crochet series. |
| Youtube can be good because they can show that same angle as you're seeing when you look at your knitting. It's hard to learn from someone sitting opposite you. |
I’ve had teachers sit next to me — rather than across from me. This way, they can even physically assist by moving the yarn or shifting the way I’m holding the needles. It’s an advantage of in-person instruction, especially when you’re just getting started. |
| Youtube is great for this. Both of my kids learned to knit sweaters this way during the lockdown. |
| I'll teach you how to knit. |
