My Eye Dr. -- any good?

Anonymous
Am trying to spend down the last of my FSA balance and I need both a quick eye exam (for prescription purposes) and frames before December 31st. Would My Eye Dr. be a good option to try? They seem to get mixed reviews on Yelp.

If not, any other recommendations for someplace I can get this done quickly and with minimum hassle? Preferably in NoVA.

Where are you located? We go to The Eye Doctors and they're very good, in our experience and have good reviews.

I tried them a couple of times (Rockville and Bethesda locations) several years back but stopped going after it became clear that their practice is to NOT give patients a copy of their glasses/contact lens prescription unless the patient asks, and then they slow-walk it because the optometrist is now in with another patient. That's not consistent with the law.

I've had good experiences with Kaiser Vision Essentials but recognize that might not be an option for you.

They do give you the prescriptions now or at least you have to check all these boxes saying that you understand you can get a copy. They must have been sued.
I think they are only ok. But they are in network for my insurance and you can get appointments easily.

They are only ok if you have an easy script. Do not go if progressive or bifocal!!!! They are terrible and barely skilled

I think like any medical office, it's the doctor who makes an office good. I've been to some franchise eye doctors where the experiences were mediocre. I'm currently going to the MyEyeDr in Cathedral Commons and Dr. Dearing is awesome. She's patient and kind and has helped me through a bunch of issues with my eyes. Also the staff has always been friendly and helpful.

I took my ds to LensCrafters and they seemed better to me than my previous experiences with MyEyeDr. I suppose it can vary by location, but check them out anyway.

I go to the one on Connecticut Ave in Dupont. They're quick, tend to have availability, and you can access your prescription online if you lose the paper one they give you. The glasses selection is meh, so I usually get my frames elsewhere.

OP here. We're in the Falls Church area and FYI I do probably need progressives or bifocals.

Are there any other places where you can get both an exam and buy lenses at the same location? Have never had glasses before other than readers, so I'm completely new to this. Who has the best selection of frames?

I've always had good results with Visionworks. They are like My Eye Doctor and can usually get you in the same week.

I used My Eye Doctor about 5ish years ago and they were a pain when I asked for my prescriptions. They really push you to go through them to purchase. I even told them at the beginning that I had zero intention of ordering contacts through them because no one can top Costco's prices.

I get progressive lenses through a MyEyeDr location in Sterling. No issues. I got the prescription without any problems, as well.

I went to them once, and then changed optometrist, and the marketing robocalls I got from them drove me bonkers. I go to small independent ones.

My experience as well with MyEyeDr. We switched to Visionworks and are happy so far, they don’t push you to buy anything.

A My Eye Dr optician in Silver Spring spotted a genetic condition in my eye and sent me to a specialist. They competently and sensitively explained why they were referring me and now I only see the specialist. So yes, in my opinion, that was a great catch and I respected their opinion.

The eyeglasses are fine, but now I just get Warby Parker (cheaper, more stylish). I'll probably get RayBans from My Eye Dr when I get new ones.

I really like Associates in Eyecare Oakton and they recently "joined" My Eye Doctor. They will give you your prescription via web portal.
