Gingerbread loaf or cake

Looking for a gingerbread cake to make for my birthday this week. I used to love the glazed slice at Starbucks that they stopped serving. British recipes welcome too, since I have a can of treacle in my pantry.

Grease the pan(s) with vegetable shortening, coat with granulated sugar, and remove from pan when they first come out of the oven. These things are sticky but delicious, and worth the struggle
