How to decide??

Anonymous
I have been lurking on this site for awhile because I've been ttc for 2 yrs on my own and now I'm ready to do whatever it takes. I've read so many conflicting posts on this site about the area specialists, how do I decide what to believe??? My ob has given me 2 names and both of them have been mentioned on this site many times, mostly positively. What's the most important criteria, statistics?? i don't even know what kind of treatment I may need.

Just make an appointment with one of them and go. They will give you lots of information and you can start thinking through what they've said and if you have more questions. Then try an appointment with the other one to see if you get the same info/different vibe/etc. Seeing a specialist doesn't mean you have to go through with anything. But it's a really good place to start getting your head around what's involved and how much you want to inform/educate yourself before making any big decisions. One foot in front of the other - it's not all a big leap at once. Best wishes!

Hi OP. I'm in a similar situation -- but it's secondary infertility (TTC #2).

I just took the plunge and made an inital appointment for next week with Dominion Fertility, too. I've read great things on this board. I hope they're helpful to both of us!

I read a great book by Elizabeth Swire-Falker called "The Infertility Survival Handbook". She tells her own personal story about her journey and goes in to great detail about choosing fertility clinics and also participating in shared risk programs. I highly recommend it! It was a quick read, and has lists of questions that you can ask when you go and consult with doctors. It also has lists of resources for you. Have you checked out resolve.org? That's a great resource too.

Good luck!
