Why? Do people think it’s whimsical? Clever?
Cute? I’m a teacher and I can’t even tell you how many kids BITE it on the blacktop every day because they run full speed in cowboy boots and lose control. I’m not even at school, I always see kids clomping through the grocery store down the street. Why! |
|
Some kids really like them. My kid doesn’t have any but my niece does and she LOVES them. Her mom is a teacher and geberally won’t let her wear them to school because they aren’t appropriate for playing, but once in a while for a special occasion she permits it.
They are like a costume. Kids like playing dress up. News at 11. |
| Who's obsessed? Maybe people from "country states"? Or people who are into country things. Not in our home. |
| I live in actual an actual rural country area and I do not ever see kids in cowboy boots. Maybe those western style work boots sometimes but not cowboy boots. Nobody is obsessed with kids in cowboy boots. |
We’ve always raised my kids in cities in central MD. Not into country things. Both my kids went through a long cowboy boot phase. Never saw them wipe out. Maybe people are buying cheap boots with crappy soles? |
| I’ve never seen this. Where are you? Almost every kid I see around me is in some variation of sneakers. That includes both public and private and kids from preschool thru high school. |
| Today was the first time I have seen a little kid running around in cowboy boots. He did look awesome, though. |
| I see some kids in my area out in riding and western boots, but we live around lots of farms and close to some equestrian centers. They’re not for fashion, at least here. |
| I’m a teacher and I can’t believe people send their kids to school in sandals, flip flops, Crocs etc. They aren’t safe either but we can’t make them sit out recess either. Parents, think about it. Your kid will be running and climbing 🧗♂️ n playground equipment. That footwear isn’t safe for that. Save them for home. |
| Kids bite it on the blacktop in every type of footwear. They are clumsy, can't judge distance, don't watch wear they are going, and trip over their own feet. Your disdain for cowboy boots is just that. |
| I have never seen cowboy boots on any kid in DC or close in MD. Are you in the DMV? |
| Never seen cowboy boots, but plenty of stupid crocs and other dangerous footwear. You could always send a reminder to parents, OP, but in this day and age, they're likely to find offense. |
|
Why are you not bringing this up to your administration, hmm? Doesn’t seem really productive to whine on DCUM. Our after-care and our elementary school both have banned various types of footwear for various reasons. Ask your fellow teachers to help lobby the administration to make this change.
(I know it’s easier to just complain on DCUM, though.) |
| I get what OP is saying. Neither Crocs nor cowboy boots are allowed at our school. We live on the west coast in a place where both are equally common, and where the ground is always damp. Both shoes are dangerous on slippery pavement and playground equipment. |
| I do not know one single child who wears cowboy boots. |
