| Does anyone know the odds of getting a 2nd or 3rd grader into TAG at Glenarden, Capital Heights, or Ackokeek through the lottery. Do some schools usually have more space than others? Considering moving to PG but wanted to know if would better to be in a certain part of the county for TAG elementary possibilities? |
| For at least the last 5 years, Glenarden Woods, and Capitol Heights have had open 2nd and 3rd grade TAG seats in August so I would say your chances are very good at those schools. |
| Literally everyone I know with kids in the Laurel/PG area had their kids at the Tag school in Bowie ( I think) the poor kids get on a bus at 620 in the morning to go to this school. One of them has been bullied and assaulted several times since Sept. being a Tag school doesn’t mean a whole lot apparently. |

I think the chances are good, but would wait until you find out before moving.
I know students at Glenarden Woods and Tasker MS in Bowie. They are challenging programs, but the families are happy. |

Thanks any idea which one has better reputation between capital heights and glenarden? |
Capitol Heights parents LOVE the principal. I have only heard good things. |
Both have excellent reputations. If you are going to stay in the area for Middle School, consider what the zoned TAG program is. I know that CHES students split into Kenmoor and Walker Mill. Kenmoor TAG has a good reputation (we have been very happy), Walker Mill....not so much. This is from 2018. The author ended up getting her child moved into a different TAG program (Tasker) and has been happy there. https://pgcabs.org/2018/06/11/middle-school-talented-and-gifted-programs-need-improvement/ I'm not sure about Glenarden Woods. They might split into Greenbelt/Kenmoor/Tasker but I'm not sure. Ranking them I would say Tasker/Kenmoor/Greenbelt but they are all good programs. Kenmoor is getting a new building next year and Greenbelt has serious over crowding. You can search addresses on Schoolfinder and see what the zoned specialty programs are. |
Laurel is zoned for the TAG magnet at Heather Hills. |
