My car is 20 years old and people are starting to look at me weird because I'm still driving it. I don't have a lot of income right now. Can anyone recommend some newer cars that aren't very expensive?

I guess something for $300 a month payment.
New or gently used Mazda3 or Subaru Impreza.
Who cares if they look at you funny! I mean is that worth $3600 a year? Keep driving it. Used car prices are still sky high.
That’s a silly excuse to get a car particularly in this car market. Are you having issues with your car? If not, keep driving.

I’ve had two Hondas that I’ve each driven for 20 years. I’m now 10 years into a Toyota. I buy reliable cars and keep them. Only sold the first two because the safety improvements of the new cars.
Do not under any circumstance buy a 13 year old Kia/Hyundai/Nissan. As for replacing a 20 year old vehicle with a 17 year old Toyota or Honda … well it’s a choice. I’m sure any mechanic would be more than happy for you to buy him a new bass boat. |
I am a cheapskate about cars and enjoy driving old cars. But there have been some real safety improvements in the last 20 years, starting in about 2011, when most cars were equipped with stability control, and then again in 2018 or so, when lane-assist and smart cruise control mostly became standard features.
The Chevy Trailblazer and Hyundai Tucson new are two good cheap small SUVs that are stylish
Agreed - the safety features alone are reason enough to buy a new(er) car. In OP's case, I would get a new car because OP clearly drives them for a long time and said they don't have a lot of income right now. Given that, and the facts that used cars are very close in price right now to new ones AND new cars are under warranty so OP would not have to worry about repairs for a few years, a new car makes sense. |
