$$ spend on Christmas for adult children

I spend about $500 a piece. They're all in their low 30s. My Mom thinks this is a travesty.

We also go on occasional family vacations in place of Christmas gifts where we pay for MOST of the vacation and she also thinks this is awful too.

How much do the rest of you spend?

I don’t understand- why does she say it’s awful?

We've spent over $4,000 and under $100. There's no set budget.

Why do you tell your mom what you spend on your kids? Not sharing this information is the easiest way to solve your problem.

that I'm spoiling them. They need to get a small gift and pay for their own vacations.

I do not TELL her but she can see that I spend money on vacations and high ticket items from us to them for Christmas.
ITs' one thing to buy someone a sweater. It's quite another to buy them a big screen TV or a piece of furniture.

Do whst you want. My parents spend 50-300 on me and Dh because they love giving presents. We also vacation with them and they pay for the house and we pay for our own plane tix. My parents didn't have to pay for college (scholarships) and bought their house when it was 1/3 of its current price.

OP, why are you telling her? I mean, really, nothing you don't have to discuss with her, don't

I'm in my mid 30s. I usually get a $1,000 check from my mother and a $500 check from my father (parents are divorced, I'm an only child). They haven't provided any other type of financial support since college and helping to pay for my wedding.

In my family the older generation always pays for family vacations. When I was young, it was my grand parents. My mother paid when my kids were young and now we pay.

OP here - my mother has not paid for anything at any time. She was a single mom and I'm married and we can afford it.
Husband's mother still sends us 1k for Christmas!

Ahhh. Got it. I suppose it depends on their age? $500 sounds normal/reasonable to me. Paying for vacations? Sounds nice. If it’s no trouble for you, I don’t see the issue.

they're all in low 30s. One is married.

If one is our age, retired and secure, and trying to actively disperse their assets - what not?

It's not like we're talking about trust-fund babies here
