Any experience with VCU Honors college ?

DC just learned they were admitted to thr honors college at VCU. Anyone have any first hand experience ?

Not first hand, but my sister was in the honors college. Perks include first dibs for class registration, invites to cool seminars and gatherings with free food and interesting speakers, honors dorm rooms are private room and bath.

How did they find out about honors college?

DS applied to it after acceptance was received. They also send out invite emails to in person info sessions. Honors college acceptance came later separate for DS.

Niece did VCU honors, gainfully employed immediately upon graduating, and loved Richmond enough to stay there.

Richmond is a top destination for jobs and grad school- surprising VCU undergrad does not get more attention

They require a 2-3 page paper for the app. Seems excessive but my son will do it if he decides to attend VCU.

My son did a tour but was turned off because he was the only Caucasian there for the Honors session. It seemed heavy on the pre-meds. This was two years ago, fwiw.

That would not phase my Caucasian DS, though he goes to one of the less-favored FCPS HSs and so would not find being in a room of smart non-white kids unusual.
