HarperCollins News

I don't know if anyone is aware, but the HarperCollins employees who are part of the UAW have been trying to negotiate a contract for almost a year. Apparently, the starting salaries there are $45k (in NYC!) and they get very few sick days. A lot of HC authors are tweeting about it. Some are sending money to a strike fund, too.

The CEO of HC claimed they pay better than all the other publishers and some Simon & Shuster exec put out a rebuttle within hours that their starting salaries are higher.

This is book news and I thought it might be interesting for people to know. The union is suggesting reviewers hold reviews of HC book for now. They aren't suggesting anyone not buy HC books, as that would hurt booksellers and authors. The HC Union twitter account is posting updates and retweeting authors. It's an interesting read if you're interested.
