Question re Jury Duty for adult child who is away but still uses our address

Anonymous
Adult child is traveling abroad for the last 8 months or so but uses our DC address for his drivers license, voter registration, taxes, etc.

He has no address but ours and intends to return to DC when he is done traveling.

Jury summons arrived in the mail.

What happens if he just doesn't show up, because he is not going to spend $2,000 on a plane ticket to come back for jury duty, although he is domiciled in DC.

He needs to call or write them and tell them he's out of the country.

Call the clerk's office. They will fix it.

They need to defer

If he just doesn’t show, a warrant will be issued for his arrest

Which will pop up when he goes through customs returning

Two choices:

1) Call the Clerk of the Courts office and explain the situation or

2) Just mail in a Not Guilty verdict.

But, only use #2 if he does not intend to return to the US.

Its very simple, they just defer. People don't stop business trips, vacations, etc for jury duty.

this is not true. I enter warrants all week long and have never in 10 years entered one into the system for missing jury duty.

not to sidebar the point of this thread. I’m the PP who enters warrants. We enter arrest warrants and bench warrants. We have had situations where someone will fly into one of our airports and have a warrant for something like traffic because they missed a “ must appear” court date. They literally get arrested at the airport and taken to the local jail. If it’s a MD warrant with extradition and they fly into Dulles they get held in the Loudoun jail until the MD agency goes and gets them…. They have upto 10 days.

Our college student just got called for jury as well. I filled out the form saying he cannot attend because he's a full-time college student and another state. I included a copy of the page I log in to pay his tuition, that should his name and the name of the university and the zero balances due because it had been paid.
