How many hours should 3/4 year old sleep in a day?

I have problem waking my child up in the morning for dropoff, and I wonder if it is because of lack of sleep.

What is their current sleep schedule?

Every kid is different. This is also the age where some drop the nap but still need the sleep. My 3 year old naps for 2 hrs at daycare and sleeps 9-7. I put her down earlier but she doesn't fall asleep until 9 or so because of the nap. So thats 11-12 hrs.

I think the normal range is 10-13 hours, with kids who are still napping on the upper end of that range generally.

My kid dropped her nap at 3 and has been in the 10-11 range since then.

That said, this is a hard time of year for kids and morning wakeups. Same with the month after the spring time change. Kids have circadian rhythms and school/daycare schedules (or your work schedule) don’t change to accommodate them. This time of year, I seek to streamline our morning routine as much as I can, so I can allow DD to sleep in as late as possible if she needs to. I much prefer that to waking her up.

General rule is that kids should not need to be woken up in the morning. If they do need to be roused, they are sleep deprived. If you are at a high latitude and it’s pitch black in the morning, one of those sunrise clocks can help.
