I have problem waking my child up in the morning for dropoff, and I wonder if it is because of lack of sleep. |
What is their current sleep schedule? |
Every kid is different. This is also the age where some drop the nap but still need the sleep. My 3 year old naps for 2 hrs at daycare and sleeps 9-7. I put her down earlier but she doesn't fall asleep until 9 or so because of the nap. So thats 11-12 hrs. |
I think the normal range is 10-13 hours, with kids who are still napping on the upper end of that range generally.
My kid dropped her nap at 3 and has been in the 10-11 range since then. That said, this is a hard time of year for kids and morning wakeups. Same with the month after the spring time change. Kids have circadian rhythms and school/daycare schedules (or your work schedule) don’t change to accommodate them. This time of year, I seek to streamline our morning routine as much as I can, so I can allow DD to sleep in as late as possible if she needs to. I much prefer that to waking her up. |
General rule is that kids should not need to be woken up in the morning. If they do need to be roused, they are sleep deprived. If you are at a high latitude and it’s pitch black in the morning, one of those sunrise clocks can help. |
