Does anyone have suggestions or ideas for fun holiday oriented events and things for toddlers? My toddler is obsessed with holiday lights and gets so happy when we see a fully holiday decorated house with lights, etc..
Any suggestions for things we could do while we stay in the car, or even walk around would be greatly appreciated. Montgomery County would be ideal, but would be willing to drive for something special. |
Zoo lights |
Drive around and look at lights. Bull Run Festival of Lights in Virginia is very good, or take a self-guided driving tour of the town of Vienna's holiday light contest (entrant map available here: https://www.viennava.gov/doing-business/town-business-liaison-committee/holiday-window-decorating-competition#:~:text=Visit%20the%20Bright%20Lights%20of%20Vienna%20and%20Vote%3A&text=You%20can%20join%20the%20fun,Map%20here%20or%20click%20above).

Meadowlark holiday lights are also very pretty. It's an outdoor walk. |
How about a living Nativity?
There are 2 churches near us that have one, free and open to the public, that we go to. |
+1 for Meadowlark. My kids loved it as toddlers!
Find houses nearby that have light shows with music you can tune to on the radio in your car. I personally don’t think Bull Run is worth the drive from MoCo, even though you stay in your car. |
LDS temple lights in Kensington, cool and free. |
If you're in MoCo, I'd see if Brookside Gardens has tickets left. It's not specifically holiday themed, but it's lots of beautiful lights and mine has always loved it. |
We prefer Bull Run to Meadowlark, but the year we did Meadowlark was brutally cold and really REALLY crowded. But honestly, with toddlers, just putting on Christmas movie and driving around the neighborhood is just as fun.
I picked up a few holiday craft kits from Target, and that’s been a really great activity with my 2 and 4 year old. We don’t put up holiday lights, so hanging DIY ornaments in the window have been our decorations. |
^^should say Christmas MUSIC |
Navy Yard has a great display. Starts at 5pm. There is also ice skating close by |
