Private & Independent Schools
| Does anyone have this info for K? We are looking for next year. Thanks. Also, any words of advice for what they might look for in a candidate? Again, TIA. |
| They say that they get 150 applications for 54 spots, but about 25 spots are taken by sibs. |
My ds is high-energy and not a great listener (but very visual and hands-on). Scored in the 90's. We loved the school. He was rejected for K. |

They seem to care about balance. The sib policy creates academic diversity.
They asked us what we liked about the school, and we said the facility and the fact that it goes to grade 8. We also mentioned small class sizes in a big school. Write back saying you liked it. Also, look at WES and St. Francis if you liked Norwood. Also, take a peek at Forth Presbyterian. They will have a nice brand new building by 2009. |
Where are you going to send him? |
Probably the neighborhood public at this point. A good school with solid mention in Bethesda magazine...with all I've read we've called St. Francis...so we'll see. |
| 20:02 thanks! |
| Prep the child to listen on the "play date". Tell him or her that the teacher is going to show/teach you something. They want a child that can be taught. |
| Current Norwood K parent here- we found the admissions process to be welcoming and informative. If you have specific questions about acceptances/applicant ratios, you should contact the admissions office or check out the school website. I think it changes year to year depending on sibiling applicants though.....As far as admissions advice, I think that teacher recs and the playdate seem to be very important. Also, I think expressing a willingness to get involved and volunteer at the school might be important. There is a real sense of community. Good luck to you- my son is very happy in K, is excited to go to school each morning and I am amazed at how much he shares with me about his day at school. |
