I made the mistake of listening to the radios at various schools across ACPS. It is disturbing. I never thought I would send my kids to schools that required a real security presence constantly communicating in real time with law enforcement. It is surreal. I listened to one where the officer was warning of a “crew” congregating in the bathroom. More about crews here:
https://www.alxnow.com/2022/09/27/police-chief-there-are-crews-of-violent-kids-within-alexandria-city-public-schools/ The complete dismantling of any discipline system means these kids stay in our schools, and we are just increasing security to allow this children to operate criminal enterprises without consequence. Parents and community members just have to hope the students not involved in organized crime are spared being caught in the fray. Radio dispatch here: https://openmhz.com/system/alex?time=1670009507000 How have Alexandrians allowed this to become an acceptable norm? |
How do you listen to radio dispatches? I am an ACPS parent and Alexandrian too. I am disgusted that discipline is out the door and safety is not prioritized. The kids with these disciplinary issues need real help. We need more than one HS and a real alternative school system, maybe a juvenile court run school. Thanks for posting the link, OP. This is very disturbing. |
I can't figure out the link. How do you listen to it? How do you get to the real time feed? |
OP here - timely post yesterday as my MH child just texted me "there was a big fight at school. Cops and ambulances are here. I am ok."
If you want to listen google "open mhz alexandria va." |
Yup - stabbing in the cafeteria. |
This is acceptable because Alexandrias would prefer to pretend to have a good and safe school system than actually have one. Has any questioned why the SLEP committee formed in May but has yet to achieve anything? Seven months and the committee has achieved NOTHING. And Alexandrians are fine with that. They like performative. ACPS renames gangs as crews and no one calls BS. As much as PTAC gets beaten up on this board, they represent Alexandria parents really well. Head in sand, accepting everything ACPS does, never questioning and exploiting the systemically racist system. These are the same people who ignored a rape & a cover up (at the time Alderton said it was a gang rape). No one is going to care about this (apparent) stabbing. |
is the true? |
18 arrested for felony assault at Minnie Howard. |
This is one report https://www.alxnow.com/2022/12/05/police-called-after-altercations-at-alexandria-city-high-school/ |
Balas continued, “As a precaution, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) was called for assistance in the event that additional support might be needed. Just to clarify, the building was not placed on lockdown or secure the building status which some members of the school community mistakenly posted on social media channels.” |
Fear of being called racist. I am not kidding. This is the number 1 reason. |
Alexandria Now is well knowns as a mouthpiece for ACPS and the City. They won't dig deeper into any of this or the other incident that happened at Minnie Howard last week. Don't expect interviews with real parents bet they get a quote from the sycophants of PTAC or the MH PTA. They are there to regurgitate press releases and nothing else. The videos that are circulating are disturbing to say the least. There is a school board meeting tonight. But parents won't be there (maybe the one who showed up after the rape cover up) because holding the school board accountable might result in things being awkward at the neighborhood holiday parties. That's the priority in Alexandria. It's clear after last week's minnie howard fight that spilled over to Bradlee and yesterday's chaos, things are escalating. Has a single school board member made a statement that this is unacceptable? PTAC? The MH PTA? Silence is violence. |
Correction - school board meeting is 12/7. Not tonight. Not that it matters to Alexandrians. |
Link the videos or tell us how to find. |
People need to show up to the school board meeting. If the meeting is tomorrow night, you need to submit public comments. This was all my neighborhood was talking about yesterday when picking up our younger kids. However, people in Alexandria who are mainly Democratic volunteers (I'm a Dem) are posting not to post or ask questions and let "our leaders" deal with it unless you witnessed firsthand. For the kids who experienced this, it was very unsettling. The admin who required medical attention. These kids need interventions, need to be removed from MH and placed in alternative school and the city needs to stop acting like this isn't an issue. I'm sick of parents acting like since it doesn't affect their students or middle and upper class students it is not an issue. |
