Well….no more 2 week winter break

We’ve had less than two weeks at winter break various times since my 9th grader started K. I agree it’s been several years since it’s been less, but I’m guessing the 2 week break will be back when it makes sense to do so. It’s hard to justify it with Christmas on a Monday.

This year has 170 days. Next year we're going back to 180. So those 10 days are going to cut into the winter break.

Prior years have had two week winter breaks and 180 days of school, including last year. I don’t think the two are really related.

No worries as my principal allows me to use sick days to fly overseas to visit family so I can properly have 3 weeks.

Next year instead of using 5 sick days I’ll just use 5 sick + 3 personal. Y’all stress way too much. Live your lives.

Teacher's are just prickly they got 10 free days this year and next year have to go back to the normal 180 instructional days. Boo hoo. This current year is the anomaly - next year is just back to normal.

Surprised parents voted for it. Several Indian families I know took their kids for a month long trip to India, two weeks holidays + two weeks extra days off

I don’t know any parent who voted for the option chosen by the school board. Near universal dislike of it, based on conversations I’ve had with the parents in our circle. So many people use those 2 full weeks at Christmas for extended travel to visit family, and the mid-June release date feels too late to me, too. I’d much prefer that the dispense with so many random days off during the year.

Parents are not the ultimate decision makers on this.

The calendar isn’t voted on by staff and parents, they are just asked for input. And no the one chosen (option 5) was not any of the 3 sent out for input.
